Gerry

Gerry è un film di Gus Van Sant. Fa parte di una trilogia dedicata alla giovinezza.
La scena iniziale e la scena finale hanno per protagonista una strada e un paesaggio che i due protagonisti percorrono in auto. Una volta lasciata l'auto si incamminano a piedi ed iniziano il loro viaggio attraverso il deserto.
La particolarità è che il nome di entrambi i protagonisti è Gerry. Molto legati tra di loro, sembrano due fratelli o amici di infanzia. Si aiutano si seguono, si parlano e si raccontano. Quando decideranno di lasciare il sentiero e di perdersi nello sconfinato paesaggio, cercheranno di farsi coraggio a vicenda e di spiegarsi, senza successo, dove stanno andando e cosa sta succedendo loro.
Questo viaggio diventa per loro metafora della vita, ma senza ricerca di meta alcuna, perchè come dice Gerry "tutte le strade portano allo stesso posto", e sentirsi perso è solo una condizione temporanea.

Gerry is a Gus Van Sant's movie i have recently seen. it's the first chapter of a trilogy dedicated to youth. Protagonist of the first and last scene is a long road which the two protagonists travel by their car, then they start their journey throught the desert.
The strange detail is that both protagonists are called Gerry. They seem to be quite brothers or very old friends: they follow each other, they speak and tell each other stories. When they decide to leave the path and then to lose in the unlimited landscape, they try to confort each other and to find some explanations.
The journey became a metaphor of life but without looking to any destination, because as GerryS say "every road goes in the same way", and feeling lost is just a temporary condition.
