Dance for All

We are now in Cape Town, South Africa, Philippe Boyd is a white southafricaner and a dancer, he came back from the great stages of the world. Here, he decided to do something beautiful and important fot her, his country: dance.
Boyd loves his job, loves to stay on the stage, but he also wants to create a better place where it's truly possible to live, he tried to offer an alternative to the street and a better future.
This is how born the dance school Dance for All, he built it with his wife (étoile of the Cape Town City Ballet, she died three years ago). Here it is possible to find dance courses of any kind: classical, modern and traditional; everything is for free with daily lessons, transport and clothes and costumes. This school is working thanks to collaborations with world famous dance schools as Royal Ballet di Londra, Stanford University, Cuban National Ballet; volunteers and dance teachers from the city. Favorites places for lessons are small gyms, basements and old and empty stock rooms, yes, everywhere.
What they are doing here is try to save the future of these guys, because despite sixteen years have passed from the segregationist government, Southafrica is still divided between strong contradictions and deep disparities, and the gap between rich and poor still depends on skin color. Boys are surely less than girls, and sometimes they are mock off for their choice, but they are happy to learn how move their body and dance.
Dance for All is twenty years old, and he menaged more than 1500 students, some of them change their mind and gave up going back to the street and his daily war, but others stayed and are now on the school wall or in professionist dance companies.
It's good to see a little girl who just can do her first steps, who dreams Broadway and celebrity, and a big great public. And then she just catches the bus and she goes back there, on the street.
