L.s. Lowry

L.S. Lowry, this is an art name but also the abbreviation for Lawrence Stephen Lowry: british painter. Most of his pictures describe Salford in the Uk and some areas nearby, also Pendlebury where he worked for more than forty years.
When you look at one of his paints, you can certainly understand why i'm writing about him. In all of them there streets and people, people and streets; everything and everybody in one sight. He used to stay there observing how all that people was talking and playing, thinking and loving or simply crossing the way. All this thiny stylized people, became his peculiarity and made him famous across the world. Everybody started to know who was LS Lowry and his description of common life in the industrial disctricts in north England in the XX century.
With Lawrence everything started in 8, Barrett street, and it has been an hard start because his mother preferred to have a girl, and instead arrived Laurie. She was envious of her sister who had three girls. His family wasn't really interested or happy for the boy's gift for art, and he tryied to menage himself for some handdrawing lessons. After his mother death he started to paint some beach scenes that he could see during his holidays, when he didn't have something where to draw on, he just improvised on everything he could find around.
In the end this charming man, full of contraddicitions about his own personality, mede new friends during all his life. He could leave us lots of pictures and illustrations with on it lots of small little men, that somebody criticized because more similar to little puppets, than real men. But this was about brain and rationality, too much for him, he loved to say that "you don't use brain to paint, just feelings".

"Most of my land and townscape is composite. Made up; part real and part imaginary [...] bits and pieces of my home locality. I don't even know I'm putting them in. They just crop up on their own, like things do in dreams."
